Kutiyattam Workshop with Kapila Venu

This two-day online workshop will focus on Bhava and Rasa (emotion and its aesthetic experience) and Hasta and Netra (the relationship between gesture and the eye) in the context of Kutiyattam


 

Kapila Venu

Kapila Venu is a practitioner of Kutiyattam – one of the oldest living theatre traditions of the world, from Kerala, India. She is a disciple of the legendary Kutiyattam maestro Guru Ammannur  Madhava Chakyar and renowned exponents Guru G Venu and Guru Usha Nangiar. She is also a practitioner of Mohiniyattam classical dance which she studied from her mother Guru Nirmala Paniker.

She has been travelling around the world performing, teaching and giving workshops on Kutiyattam for over two decades. She is a guest faculty at the National School of Drama, New Delhi and a Master Teacher at the Intercultural Theatre Institute, Singapore.

Kapila has been awarded the highest honour for young artistes from the Govt. of India – Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, Kumar Gandharva  Samman from the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh and the Sanskriti Award from the Sanskriti Pratisthan.
