Collective Shivarathiri is a durational art festival held for over 12 hours where performers of south asian art forms are given space to offer their practice, held in an intergenerational community of artists and audiences. Conducted for the past three years in our venue Collective Space, the festival invites communities from all over Toronto to consider the meeting point between performance and practice. As the body holds the tradition of knowledge sharing held in an expansiveness of time, Collective Shivarathri is an active acknowledgement of the contribution made by teachers, mentors, peers, students, audience members, and patrons to art making and sustaining. A joyful celebration of artistic gathering, we ask practitioners to make space for reflection on what they wish to pass forward.
After performances in Montreal, Düsseldorf and Liège, we look forward to sharing this work with audiences in Nottingham, UK and Calgary, Alberta.
This new program focuses on deepening practice, aesthetic exchange and building relationships for international exchange.

One finds something new not because one is searching for it but simply because one is searching. This is the energy of independent artist-run organizations. They are the crucible where experimental ideas and new models are developed. In this spirit we bring forward an exciting new season. It includes repertoire touring works that are meeting new audiences nationally and internationally, sectoral development initiatives and community festivals. It continues to be a joyous experience to craft these offerings with the whole Anandam team and I look forward to meeting you in the coming months.
Brandy Leary, Artistic Director
After spending the past two seasons deep in practice and development, it is quite moving to be able to share the work that emerged during this quiet, focussed period with Audiences -- across the country, abroad, and at our Toronto venue of Collective Space, which remains a vital cultural epicentre thanks to government supports and our community of artists.
Briana Brown, Artistic Producer
The density of the past few years has created a space for reflection. One where we can consider how change is held and integrated over time. We are headed into our fourth year of Collective Shivarathiri, a project that began in 2020. We are touring nationally and internationally, building our audiences, and continuing to invest in artistic training and choreographic development. I am excited for the many Anandam projects this coming season and look forward to meeting you over the year.
Nithya Garg, Curation and Production Director
Welcome to Anandam’s 2022-23 season. Alongside many incredible programs, I am particularly excited about the return of our Audience-In-Residence (A-I-R) and launching the International Choreographer’s Project. We continue to hold the integrated relationships of performance, audience, practice and community as circular and reciprocal. I hope to meet you all for Anandam's exciting activities across this season.
