Collective Shivarathiri
Collective Shivarathiri is a curatorial initiative developed by Nithya Garg and produced by Harikishan Nair and Atri Nundy. Held each year on the date of Maha Shivrathiri, it offers a sharing of artistic practice and celebrates relationships with audiences and community.
The inaugural 2020 edition featured over 50 participating multi-generational artists in dance and music and an overflowing audience. The restrictions on gathering and live performance in 2021 prevented the public event from occurring, but we were able to offer the resources of space and documentation to artists. We look forward to when we can gather again for this event.
Curatorial Statement by Nithya Garg
Collective Shivarathiri was created to provide a space of offering, artistic practice, audience relationship, and community. In a time where we cannot gather, we wanted to maintain the thread that links our present circumstance to last year's live event, honouring the generous space that was created between audience and performer. We made an offer for artists to come privately into Collective Space, to offer their artistic practice and be provided with documentation of their work. It was important that we could provide space, quality videography and photography to artists. We wish to contribute to an ecology that considers a wider range of aesthetics and practices, and it is our hope this documentation can serve their work going forward.
