Body Brake has been ĀNANDAṀ’s longest-standing curatorial partnership, part of the After Hours programming at Theatre Passe Muraille (2014-2019). Originally developed by TPM Artistic Producer Rob Kempson (2011-15) to offer both organizations the opportunity to connect with new audiences beyond a conventional dance/theatre binary and explore the theatre architecture outside of proscenium relationships.

Over 10 editions, plus two special presentations for Harbourfront and Summerworks, Body Brake has featured over 200 artists in their own works. The curatorial approach was purposely dissonant; mixing popular, classical, contemporary/post-contemporary forms from a diverse range of practices both within and on the fringes of mainstream visibility.

Body Brake echoes ĀNANDAṀ’s artistic vision and values through programming that holds the body in a space of criticality, as diverse performance practices and communities encountered each other in an immersive setting.
