About Collective Space
Collective Space is a shared, sustainable arts venue that supports interdisciplinary performance and creation. It has two studios on its premises, the Mainspace (ground floor) and the Upperspace (upstairs). Each studio has its own gender-neutral bathroom. Upperspace also has a private balcony and lounge area.
There will be times when people need to briefly pass through the shared spaces (kitchen and staircase area) to access the Upperspace. We ask all renters to approach these moments with mutual courtesy and respect.
Collective Space is also home to a diverse range of percussive dance forms and practices, including Kathak, Bharatanatyam, tap, gumboot, Afro-Caribbean styles, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Odissi and more. When sharing the space, there may be some sound transfer between the 2 studios so please be kind, communicative and considerate to help make it inclusive and welcoming for everyone who uses it.
Please respect your booking time. We leave 10 minutes between bookings to transition between rentals.
If your rehearsals involve sensitive material (such as nudity or vulnerable populations) and require complete privacy, please contact us first before booking to discuss how to establish the best conditions for your work.
The Upperspace Studio includes:
Percussive dance floor (tap, flamenco, kathak, gumboot etc)
Kettle, microwave, couch
Gender-neutral washroom with a shower
Wi-Fi
Basic sound system
Balcony
Ceiling fans, heating, and air conditioning
Accessibility
Collective Space at 103 Florence Street is not fully accessible. We have plans for future renovations supported by extensive research and consults for accessible bathrooms and entrances, but as of now, the studio is not accessible.
The Mainspace is located on the ground level and the only accessible entrance into Mainspace is via the garage door for mobility devices.
The Upperspace is not accessible due to the presence of stairs for entry into the upstairs studio.
Both bathrooms in Upperspace and Mainspace are currently not accessible for mobility devices.
Rental Rates – Upperspace
Rehearsals: $18 per hour
Performances / Events / Video Shoots: $25 per hour
Insurance
The Renter is required to have insurance for all public events, classes, and workshops and will provide the necessary insurance.
Liability and Indemnity
By booking, the Renter acknowledges that use of the Collective Space is at their own risk.
The Renter agrees to conduct all activities with care for the premises and the safety of participants.
The Renter accepts the space “as is.”
The Renter assumes full responsibility for any injury, damage, or loss during my rental period.
The Renter agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Collective Space, Anandam, its staff, and the building owners from any related claims, damages, or expenses.
Cancellation Policy
The Renter must understand and agree to the following cancellation policy.
More than 7 days’ notice: Full refund
Within 7 days of booking: 50% refund
Within 24 hours: No refund
(A 1.9% processing fee is non-refundable in all cases.)
Studio Access and Care
The Renter must agree to and follow the studio access and care policies.
Access codes for the lockbox and Wi-Fi will be emailed 24 hours prior to your booking.
Replace the key in the lockbox immediately after entry and scramble the code when finished.
Ensure both upper and lower doors are locked when leaving.
No outdoor shoes on the Marley floor. Sweep the floor before departure.
The sound system is Bluetooth
